Pretty Wedding Reception Stationery for A Cotswold Wedding

Hello all!
Hope you've all had a fabulous weekend ... I managed to take a little time off on Saturday afternoon and enjoy the sunshine and amazing food at the Exeter South West Food Festival at Exeter Castle. Beautiful venue if you are contemplating a wedding in the area by the way ... I'll try and blog about some of the fantastic food suppliers I saw later in the week :)

However on todays blog I firstly want to say a massive congratulations to the lovely Lauren from Ladyamy Bespoke Wedding Design http://www.ladyamyweddingdesign.co.uk/ and her new husband Wayne, who got married this weekend in the Cotswolds!
Lauren has been a massive support to Knots & Kisses .. having guest posted on this blog and also involved me in some amazing photo shoots over the last couple of years.

So I was delighted to design some stationery for Lauren & Wayne's Wedding Reception and came up with the designs below for her Table Numbers and hanging tags for her Table Plan.
I can't wait to see photos of them in situe on the day ...

Weekly Wedding Inspiration - Warm & Sunny Colours

I'm loving some of the bespoke enquiries and reception stationery orders which are coming into Knots & Kisses this week ... its definitely been a very creative week and I'm looking forward to some down time this weekend to go to a food festival in Exeter and get some painting done.
I'm also very excited as its getting very close to the date ( Monday 6th May ) when I'll be launching 2 new ranges of wedding stationery on my website http://knotsandkisses.co.uk .. I'll be sharing some sneak peaks next week so keep an eye out :)

We've had a few glimmers of sunshine and some pretty warm weather this week so my Weekly Wedding Inspiration has been inspired by Sunny colours which will make your wedding stand out!

Alternative Food Ideas For Your Wedding Reception

I often have conversations with couples and friends who worry about the cost of hosting a wedding when they have so many people to invite. One of the major worries is the cost per head of providing a sit down meal for all these people.
I always suggest looking at alternatives to the traditional sit down wedding breakfast .. its not for everyone ... but if you aren't that set on a traditional wedding here are a few ideas for how you can provide food for your guests at your wedding reception that may keep the costs down.

PICNIC

Especially lovely for an outdoor or garden wedding ... spread out blankets and picnic benches and provide each guest with a small picnic for their afternoon meal. Just remember to have a back up plan in case it rains :)

MODERN BUFFET

A lot of people are put off by the idea of serving a buffet to their 'afternoon' guests .. but done in the right way with some quirky touches it can look beautiful. Especially great to serve seperate tables filled with goodies ... I'm loving the idea of a cheese or pie table!

AFTERNOON TEA PARTY

Increasingly popular this is a lovely way to have an informal sit down meal without having the traditional 3 course wedding breakfast. As the food is placed on lovely china in front of your guests ... it still allows a little bit of formality in that you can easily work in speeches etc as normal .. but small finger food and desserts definately keeps the cost down.

Bicycles in Blue - Wedding Reception Stationery & Styling

Good morning all! Welcome to a new week here at Knots & Kisses.
Its starting to get to that time of year when I have lots of reception stationery to design and make for lots of lovely couples who ordered invitations off me earlier in the year or last year.

Today I want to share with you the matching reception stationery that I have made for a bespoke version of my Sketch range of invitations which I created for the lovely Laura & Andrew.
Instead of one of the regular motifs I sketched out a tandem bike with a bride and groom on and also changed the background colour to a gorgeous blue.

For styling ideas to match this wedding I created a moodboard in shades of wedgewood blue with rustic elements to match the string and brown kraft details in the stationery.

Weekly Wedding Inspiration - Emerald Green And Lace

The end of another week here at Knots & Kisses, and this week has seen an influx of orders .. so I've got lots of lovely wedding stationery projects lined up for over the summer ... including some Very British Wedding Invitations & Art Deco Bejewelled Pockets. You can see both ranges and order samples on the website http://knotsandkisses.co.uk

For my weekly Wedding Inspiration I've been seeing lots of gorgeous Emerald Greens around this year .. perhaps its the influence of the new Wizard of Oz movie! I think the colour works really well if you mix it with ivory lace and don't make it too stark with just white ... here's some ideas I've collected this week ...

English Grown and In Season Wedding Flowers

Its no secret that I adore fresh flowers ... I have always have a jug of fresh flowers on my dining room table, as just passing them every day makes me smile.
So, for me ... although I know there are lots of fab alternatives! ... a wedding just wouldn't be right without flowers.

Which brings me onto an emerging trend I'm seeing for beautiful English wildflower style bouquets and arrangements, which are very much in season ... so much so you go to the garden to choose them!
I've recently discovered The Garden Gate Flower Company for example ... based in Fowey, Cornwall  ... The flowers they grow in their organic cutting garden are those which thrive in Cornwall. The changing nature of their bouquets reflect the changing seasons reminiscent of Cornwall’s famous gardens and hedgerows. http://www.thegardengateflowercompany.co.uk/ . This is just one example but I've heard of a few companies like this around the country who work in this way.

Its pretty well known that most florists can get pretty much most flowers all year round if they choose to import them from abroad and pick them up at the flower markets .... I know several florists who don't do this by the way but several who do.
Perhaps I'm being idealistic but I would love to see people go back to buying flowers in season, in the same way as we are seeing a return to buying our food in season.
I myself adore Peonies .. I would love to have peonies on my dining room table all year round! However I know that Peony season is short and so I restrict myself to having them for the months I can get them.

my favourite peonies! image from www.kissthegroom.com

Now I am by no means a flower expert! I don't know hardly any flowers actual names by sight ... but would love to see what couples getting married and professional florists think about this whole issue. Perhaps there are more florists than I realise out there that are already doing this .. it would be great to hear from you.
All I know is that I've been told by a couple of florists when I'm after a specific look of flower that they can pretty much get hold of anything for me .. just from abroad.

It would be interesting to hear what you all think .. ok ... Discuss! :)

A Pretty Green Wonderland Wedding Theme & Stationery

Hello! Sorry for the lack of blog post yesterday ... I had a bit of a mental weekend visiting friends in London & Surrey and didn't get back until very late Sunday night! So you're getting the usual 'Styling & Stationery' post on a Tuesday instead this week :)

I often create bespoke versions of my stationery ... especially my Sketch range ... and this is a version of my Sketch range incorporating a pale green colour and a 'Alice in Wonderland' motif for a couple who wanted a 'subtle' Wonderland look rather than the very themed look of my actual 'Wonderland' range of stationery.
You can see both of the original versions of these ranges on my website http://knotsandkisses.co.uk
Here's what I came up with ....

I imagine the styling for this wedding to a 'woodland tea party' in shades of green, grey, brown and cream, and with just subtle touches of the wonderland theme in the form of pocket watches, books and flowers in teapots. Here's the moodboard I've created to match ...

Weekly Wedding Inspiration

Its been all about strong colour and striking combinations here at Knots & Kisses this week.
Lots of enquiries are starting to come in from Brides & Grooms with really fun quirky ideas for their invitations and reception stationery! This week I've been working on coral and hessian reception stationery ideas, a fan shaped order of service and also some invitations incorporating a drawing of the couple parachuting into their wedding venue!

I've also been carrying on designing the new ranges which will be launched on the website and blog at the beginning of May, in which I am trying to incorporate some strong and bright colour combinations.
On that note I thought I'd bring you some bright and fun Weekly Wedding Inspiration from around the internet ...

Fabulous decorations For Your Wedding Venue

There's definitely a feeling at the moment, especially with the current economic situation, that couples are trying to save as much money as possible and not have too lavish a wedding .. and rightly so! Who wants to enter into married life with a huge debt.
I see more and more couples avoiding the large lavish weddings and receptions at big stately homes and hotels and instead opting for more low key affairs in smaller venues such as farms, barns and village halls.
Whilst these venues are fantastic value for money they do tend to offer more of a blank canvas for your wedding venue and need a bit more vision and decorations to make them come alive.
I personally think this is a great thing ... it gives you a real opportunity to stamp your own personalities and wedding style on a venue.

On that note I've searched for a few fantastic ideas on how to dress your 'blank canvas venue' to make it come and alive, and whether you take these ideas as inspiration to DIY your own, or buy or hire them from the suppliers ... you will still probably keep the costs of your wedding down by opting for one of these venues.

Paper Pom Poms and Lanterns.

Great for hanging en masse from beams and ceilings these will really brighten up your venue and, especially if you have a venue with high ceilings, give the illusion of the venue being a more intimate space which is decorated throughout. Mix pom poms and lanterns for a fun look or go purely for lots of white pom poms to create a sophisticated atmosphere. There are lots of tutorials on line as to how to make pom poms if you have the time and energy .. or you can buy them quite cheaply from lots of suppliers.

Balloons

I can't believe I'm saying this as I'm about as anti a balloon person as your likely to meet! However I'm not talking the old fashioned balloon arches and 'glitter inside balloon' table arrangements you used to get at weddings. (Probably still do at some and I apologise if this is your idea of dream wedding decor .. its just not mine I'm afraid!).
New style Balloon wedding decor is massive balloons en masse to create a bit of a fun feel.
At the www.underthevintageveil.com photoshoot I provided stationery for last year balloons were used to great effect and in a modern way to create a fun corner at a venue ...

Or try this beautiful sleek modern look over your dessert or cake table ...

Bunting

An old favourite now but still fantastic for creating a garden party or village fete style for your wedding.
The trick with bunting is to not hang sparingly ... you really do have to go for it to have a big style impact!

Florals

Florals don't have to be big traditional arrangements or 'swags' across the fronts of your tables. Apply a bit of imagination with your floral arrangements and you can create massive impact!

Vintage Cameo Wedding Stationery & Styling

Hope you've all had a lovely sunny and relaxing weekend. I was happily working on the two new ranges of stationery that I'll be launching at the beginning of May and also continuing with a very large canvas I am painting for my niece's bedroom ... painting fairytale gingerbread houses and fairies is a nice break from my usual work!

I'm also incredibly delighted to announce that as of today you can now buy samples of all of my 'off the peg' ranges of stationery direct from the website http://knotsandkisses.co.uk ! All you need to do is click on the 'Order Samples' button under each range of stationery and you can choose between ordering a Day Invitation Sample or a Sample pack of a range, which includes a Day Invitation Pack, Evening Invitation, Menu and Place card.

Today I wanted to revisit one of my standard ranges ... 'Vintage Cameo'.
This range is definitely one of the more glamorous of my designs, and would fit perfectly with a classic or Art Deco wedding.

To style Vintage Cameo I would definitely keep things simple ... classic ivory with black and ivory lace details ...

Beautiful Bridal Hairstyles

Gosh I can't believe it's the end of the week already and after all the beautiful sunshine for most of the week the weather has again turned on us! Flutterings of snow yesterday really made it feel like winter again!
On that note I have a fantastic guest post on the blog for you today from Timothy Jenkins, a hairstylist from Chicago, all about perfect Winter Wedding Hairstyles! So whether you're getting married in the next few weeks and want something a bit more suited to this unseasonable weather .. or planning your winter wedding for later this year .. there should be something to suit.

"While winter is not commonly thought of as the traditional time for weddings, it’s becoming one of the most popular seasons to head down the aisle to marital bliss. The winter months bring with them a unique beauty that this magical season creates. Winter weddings also lend themselves to gorgeous hairstyles that compliment equally stunning wedding attire.

If you are a winter bride looking for something out of the ordinary for your special day, here are some of the best non-traditional wedding hairstyles.

Low Side Pony

A sweet look for winter brides is actually easy for the DIY bride. Take your hair and comb straight to the lowest point of your head and to the side behind your left ear. Pull into a hair coloured hair band. Wrap the hair band with a wide white ribbon and let the ends fall over your shoulder. Then add a flower clip to the other side of your ear and your veil.

Romantic Rows

A modern twist on the traditional wedding up-do uses rows of your hair to define your face shape and bring out your best features. Start by sectioning your hair in the front away from your hair in the back. Use a clip to hold hair over your face. Then starting at one ear, pull sections of hair into 2-inch rows, twist and secure at your crown to the other side with hair pins. Then place your veil piece just above this row.

Sleek Sweep

The hottest wedding hair on runways this year is sleek and shiny. Start by using a shine serum on freshly washed hair, using a styling iron to flatten out any waves. Then sweep hair to the back, clip with a hair clip and add a touch of whimsy with some flowers or a glittery hair comb.

Crowned Glory

Add a row of flowers or a wide ribbon across the top of your crown, and loop this under and behind your head, letting them drape over your back for a romantic winter wedding hairstyle.

Sweet Simplicity

Wintertime can be challenging for styling wedding hair, so many brides like a more simple look. Get your hair cut into a blunt bob, then sweep the sides into combs above your ears. Or try a simple white hairband to hold hair back under your veil.

Hints & Tips For Ordering Wedding Stationery

I’m not a fan of the word etiquette when it comes to weddings! I firmly believe you should be able to have the wedding you want regardless of tradition.

However, ordering Wedding Stationery can be a bit of a minefield, and it’s useful to know a few hints & tips to make ordering your Wedding Stationery that little bit easier ….

(All Stationery Images featured are property of  www.knotsandkisses.co.uk)

1. When To Send Your Stationery

Generally the advice is to send your wedding invitations to your guests approximately 3 months before the date of your wedding. I personally think with people's busy lifes these days that 4-6 months is more appropriate so people have time to book off holiday etc.
This can however depend on your wedding … you may be having a wedding abroad and in this case you will need to send out your invitations much further in advance as your guests may need to book flights etc.

If you’d like your guests to know the date of your wedding much further in advance I’d advise sending out Save The Date cards. This can give your guests advance warning so they don’t book holidays that clash with your wedding and can book time off work if needed.

2. When To Order Your Stationery

This can depend on your stationer, but I generally advise my clients to start the booking process at least 2 months prior to the date you need to receive your invitations. This is especially necessary if you are ordering handmade stationery, as it allows time for proofs to be sent and changes to be made. You also need to take into account many stationers will only be able to take on so many orders a month so it may be worth putting a deposit down much earlier to secure the services of the stationer you really want.
Also allow extra time if you require a bespoke service as you need to allow a little bit longer for the design process.

3. R.S.V.P’s

I often have to advise couples on their RSVP dates, as sometimes they will put a date which is far too close to the wedding.
You need to allow time to chase up stragglers! No matter how well you think you know your guests there will always be a few who will reply to you weeks after your RSVP date... or not at all!
Also take into account the date your caterers and venue will need to know final numbers by, and if you are ordering reception stationery allow a month for this to be made.

A great idea is to provide a rsvp postcard in with your stationery .. I often create postcard style ones for my clients ... making it as easy as possible for your guests to RSVP quickly and in the correct way.
Many people these days will think sending you a message on facebook or by text is enough ... and if you are ok with that and can keep track of all the different types of reply you are getting that's fine! However I'd definately advise trying to keep all of your rsvps in one format if possible .. it will make it much easier for you.

4. Children

You may love to have children at your wedding, but there are many couples out there who could think of nothing worse! There are ways of wording this on your stationery so you don’t end up offending any of your guests who are parents!

Generally I advise not having a short sharp line stating “Children Not Allowed” … the text I usually use is something like … “We would love you to enjoy a day off and so respectfully ask that there are no children at our wedding”.

5. Extra Information

I’d always advise a separate information card to be included with your stationery. These days there is often so much extra information you would like to let your guests know about your day.

This can include directions, maps, guest information, food requests or even asking your guests to bring something with them to your wedding.

A lot of my stationery ranges include an information card and RSVP card as a pack price, which can save you some money.

6. Wording

When it comes to wording, I personally don’t think the rules are as strict as they used to be, but generally invitation wording will be either Formal or Informal.

Formal invitations are generally for weddings being hosted by the parents of the couple and will be addressed as such … “Mr. & Mrs. G Robinson request the pleasure of the company of Mr. & Mrs. Joe Bloggs at the marriage of their daughter Jessica Anne to Mr. James Smith ….”.

Many couples, however, now host their own weddings and so an informal wording is more appropriate … “Jessica & James would love the pleasure of the company of Jane & Joe Bloggs at their wedding …”.

I personally feel these days anything goes! Be as informal or as humorous as you want depending on the style of your wedding!

7. Final advice … Have fun with your wedding stationery and remember to order a few extra just in case!
