New Spring 2015 Wedding and Bridal Collection from BHLDN

I'm always very excited when bridal website BHLDN www.bhldn.com launches a new collection and they appear to have really outdone themselves for Spring 2015!
The collection of dresses, separates and accessories has a really ethereal bohemian feel ... with a touch of the Mediterranean and in a gorgeous palette of Blush Pinks and Creams which gives a vintage but modern feel to everything.

(I just adore the dress above!)

There is lots of lace, embellishments and some beautiful fabrics plus some gorgeous matching hair accessories. With shipping to the UK and Ireland being really reasonable its definitely a website to check out either to purchase your dress and accessories or just to browse for inspiration!

Hope that's given you lots to look at over the weekend ... and remember if you are in the Exeter area then pop along for a chat at the Exeter Castle wedding fair over the next couple of days :)

New 2015 Collection Wedding Dresses from So Sassi

I've got some gorgeous new wedding dresses to share with you today!

Multi award-winning wedding gown designer Sassi Holford is delighted to announce the launch of the 2015 Collection of her esprit label, So Sassi. Perfect for the young, modern bride with a sense of fashion and her own style, So Sassi is the creation of a young design team working in a highly creative environment under Sassi’s expert tutelage.

The collection features fresh, spirited dresses that combine exquisite silks and laces with contemporary twists – key hole backs, cut outs, sheer cap sleeves and ballerina length tulle. The dresses are handmade in Sassi’s workrooms in Somerset and the collection retails from £1,100.

“Our young designers understand the exuberance and style of contemporary brides,” says Sassi, “and that really comes across in the collection.  It’s attracted a great deal of interest from both retailers and brides looking for dresses that express that sense of joie de vivre that makes a wedding day so special – and being ‘made in England’ has become a key element.

Vintage Style Bridal Hair Accessories From Joanie & Ginger

I'm a massive fan of bridal looks without veils. As a bit of a non-traditionalist I do think people look more themselves without a veil .. but of course veils can also look stunning, especially in church weddings.
When you do go without a veil, however, its always lovely to have a beautiful hair accessory or headpiece to add something special to your outfit.

So I was rather excited to find new accessory design company 'Joanie & Ginger' on twitter the other day! http://www.joanieandgingeraccessories.co.uk/
I absolutely adore the vintage style of these accessories and so just had to share them with you.

Joanie & Ginger is a bridal accessories company founded by Louise Tait. Based in Hampshire, UK, Louise designs and handcrafts each piece herself using the finest quality materials including Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. Her love for vintage fashions inspires many of Louise’s designs ranging from the roaring 20’s to the swinging 60’s. Flowers and nature are also a strong influence in Joanie & Ginger’s designs calling on pretty floral elements to create exquisite designs. Current collections include statement side tiaras, boho inspired forehead bands, decadent combs and classically beautiful headbands. Joanie & Ginger also offer a bespoke design service, for brides who require a luxurious one off piece for their special day.

Louise believes that each bride should feel stunning on her special day but most importantly feel like herself. Louise creates accessories for brides who request the simplest of sparkles for their classic up-do to those who desire an elaborate creation where only a wow factor will do!

Bridal Shops - Are They Always Providing Good Customer Service?

As I may have mentioned I spent a lovely weekend in London and Surrey last weekend with two of my best friends, one of whom is getting married next March.
On Saturday we spent a very enjoyable day catching up and shopping for bridesmaids dresses as myself and my other friend will be her two adult bridesmaids on her wedding day.
I was over the moon to be asked. We were really looking forward to going shopping for dresses ... even though we were all also slightly nervous as myself and my friend are slightly different shapes and were a little worried that we wouldn't find something that would suit us both!

(Wouldn't it be lovely if bridesmaid dresses were presented like this in shops ???)

And so to the point of this little blog post that I felt I just had to write after our experiences on Saturday.

We had appointments on Saturday morning at two different local independent Bridal shops. I won't be mentioning names as, to be honest, its not necessary and would be incredibly unprofessional ... however I did feel I had to discuss on the blog the two totally different experiences we had in these two shops in terms of customer service.

Our first appointment was at a bridal boutique at 9am. Walking up to the shop the windows were dressed nicely ( if not at all in the style of dresses that are my sort of thing ... but that is just personal taste ). All in all though the shop looked inviting and professional.
When we walked in we were instantly greeted warmly by the lady running the shop who took my friends name and then ushered us immediately into the 'bridesmaid's dress room' in the shop.
She asked us whether we were looking for short or long dresses and then proceeded to show us the rack of dresses and quickly talk through our options and that each dress would be available in a range of colours and that we should concentrate on shapes and styles today.
A seat was provided for the bride, who obviously wouldn't be trying dresses on, but sitting and deciding on what she liked us in.
The assistant asked us to pick out dresses we would like to try on and placed these in the small dressing cubicle for us.
We then started trying on dresses ... once we were changed into them she immediately helped us do up zips, any lace ties and pinned any part of the dress that needed taking in because the sample size was too large for us in order that we could see how the dress would look on us in reality.
She was there constantly for any questions that we needed to ask and offered the odd opinion where appropriate.
She then efficiently wrote down the names and codes of the dresses we liked and showed us the various colour options available.

We were actually only in the shop for about half an hour but had a lovely time and came away feeling like we had found a couple of really possible options for our bridesmaids dresses.

(A perfect bridal shop window display from Sassi Holford!)

Our second appointment was at a similar, but slightly larger bridal shop at 11am.
Again the dresses in the window weren't exactly my sort of thing but in this instance the mannequins were also incredibly badly dressed. It looked like no thought had gone into the window displays and several of the dresses were 'hanging' off the mannequins as they were way too big and no attempt had been made to pin them so they looked their best.
When entering the shop there were several assistants milling around and it took a few minutes for someone to say hi and for my friend to give her name and say she had an appointment.
We were told to sit in the waiting area as they were currently busy with other clients .. which is absolutely fine ... however two of the assistants were just stood around chatting to each other during the time we were sat waiting.
When we were eventually shown into the area to try on dresses a large party was still in there trying on wedding and bridesmaids dresses and we were told to pick what we wanted to try from the bridesmaids dress rack and put them in the dressing room which was available to us. The assistant, who had come across as moody and harassed from the beginning, then disappeared and left us to it and we had to awkwardly apologise to the other clients in the shop as we had to stand and reach in front of them to get to the bridesmaids dresses.
As all three of the staff were still in the foyer area chatting we proceeded to let ourselves into the dressing area and close the curtain behind us to try the dresses on we had picked. The bride was at no point offered anywhere to sit or spoken to as to the various options that were available.
Once the other party had left we finally got some form of customer service from the assistant who basically loitered around and helped us, without talking, twice when we needed help lacing up a dress.
The experience was appalling and we raced through trying the dresses on we had picked so we could get out of the shop as quickly as possible.
Quite frankly, even if we had found the perfect dress, my friend said she would have taken down the details of the dress and tried to purchase it from somewhere else as she refused to give a shop with such appalling customer service any of her hard earned money!

It just goes to show how good customer service can really affect whether a client purchases from your shop or not.
It would be interesting to hear of others experiences with bridal shops ... I hope to goodness that the second experience we had is a rare occurrence!

Beautiful and Pretty Wedding Shoes

It always frustrates me that in the general high street stores that there is so little choice when it comes to shoes to wear with your wedding dress. A couple of pairs of ivory strappy sandals and a basic court is generally what you get ... but this really have to be your only option.

Today I want to share with you some of the beautiful wedding shoe options from American site www.bhldn.com .. but there are great British companies as well out there ... such as http://rachelsimpsonshoes.co.uk who do beautiful alternatives as well.

Here are my favourites from the current BHLDN collection.

Wedding Fashion - JCrew Bridal

I love to support British and we have some amazing designers out there producing stunning wedding dresses and bridal fashion. We also have some really fantastic innovative stores like www.kittyanddulcie.com who are producing some fantastic fashion forward bridal looks for those on more of a budget.
However sometimes for some really on line trend setting wedding looks without breaking the bank you really can't beat some of the American websites. My favourite in the past has always been www.bhldn.com .. its fantastic for inspiration and some of the dresses (even with shipping) are really reasonable. They also do blow the budget dresses by the way and plenty of lovely reception decor.

However I'm now just a bit in love with another American company J Crew. www.jcrew.com/wedding who have recently branched out into the wedding market and have quite a few dresses that are well under £1000 even once you've added on shipping and taxes. ( Obviously you must also bear in mind that you may need to pay for any alterations with a seamstress here if you lose weight etc before the wedding!).
They also have some beautiful bridesmaids dresses and Mother of the Bride collection.
Here's just some of my favourites from the site.

'Percy' - £662 (with shipping & taxes)

'Rosebloom' - £807 (with shipping & taxes)
'Corrina' - £506 (with shipping & taxes)

Dressing For A Winter Wedding

I'm currently working on quite a few sets of stationery for lovely winter weddings this year and it got me to thinking about what was out there in terms of Bridal Fashion for winter brides.

I always imagine winter weddings to be gorgeous glamorous affairs with lots of art deco inspiration and jewelled details, or alternatively a gorgeous big rustic house or barn with everyone wrapped up in furs and lace.

I've tried to cover all budget options below, but include my favourite designs for a winter wedding. Please let me know if you have come across any other fantastic ideas for winter wedding fashion .. it would be great to share with everybody!

Firstly a couple of dresses by the lovely Johanna Hehir www.johanna-hehir.com ... I've been a little bit obsessed with Johanna's dresses since I saw her stand at the Milton Keynes Vintage Wedding Fair I exhibited at back in February, and I think these two outfits are perfect for a winter wedding.

Next up a couple of amazing dresses from Ian Stuart Bride. If you like flamboyant and impossibly glamorous dresses then Ian's dresses are for you! http://www.ianstuart-bride.com . My friend actually had a top hat for her wedding in a theatre and it looked amazing .. so I love this version below!

My perennial favourite from the U.S www.bhldn.com does this gorgeous gown below and also some fantastic cover ups .. including this lace number that you could add to any strapless dress to give you a bit more coverage for a winter wedding.

And finally this gorgeous lace sleeved number from the Vintage Wedding Dress Company .. who do a range of dresses both vintage inspired and actual vintage. I think this one would look beautiful with a little fur gilet over the top don't you? www.thevintageweddingdresscompany.com
