Flowers In Season For A Winter Wedding

Today sees my final post in my four part series on what flowers are in season for your wedding. Today I'm looking at winter weddings. Immediate thoughts of winter weddings are red roses and lots of evergreen pine but there are a lot more options that you would think.
Of course the list below is just my favourites and make sure you check with your florist about what they can provide for you on the exact date of your wedding.

Cosmos

Cosmos is such a beautiful little flower - it come in many colours but I particularly love the 'Chocolate' variety for winter wedding bouquets.

Amaryllis
A great statement flower for winter and in a surprising variety of colours. I would go classic with silver green foliage and winter white amaryllis or the gorgeous deep hued burgundy flowers.

Paperwhites

These gorgeous small flowers look amazing on their own en-masse or equally at home accenting larger flowers in a bouquet or arrangement.

Pussy Willow
I adore this in winter bouquets - it gives such a edgy rustic wild woodland look and lots of drama.

Hellebores
Again a lovely range of colours but perfect if you are looking for dark purples and plums.

Rosemary
Ok not really a flower but I adore herbs in bouquets and as rosemary is so hardy its great for adding to winter bouquets and makes lovely table displays tucked into napkins.

Flowers In Season For A Summer Wedding

Following on with my series about what flowers to pick depending on the season you are getting married .. this week its Summer .. and after the heavy rain this week I could do with a bit of sunshine even if its just in floral form!
So here are some of my favourite flowers for summer bouquets and arrangements. As before check with your florist first to make sure he/she can get these in your area, but as a general guide this should give you an idea.

Dahlias

I adore Dahlias almost as much as I love Peonies in late spring! They are a gorgeous big blowsy flower which make a fantastic style statement on their own but also look beautiful when in with a hand tied mix of flowers in a fashionably 'messy' bouquet.

Hydrangeas

I have some gorgeous hydrangeas growing in my own garden. Mine are pink but they are also lovely in shades of blue through to purple. I love them so much I made hydrangea the main flower on my Tuscany range of stationery. Again they look beautiful mixed in with other flowers but as the heads are so big they also look amazing on their own en-masse.

Roses
Obviously a classic favourite for weddings, I especially love more English Country Tea Roses than the standard kind .. but then I'm very partial to a rustic looking hand tied bouquet. The standard variety still look amazing for simple one flower arrangements, and of course the wide variety of colours make roses incredibly versatile.

Sweet Peas
I love how delicate sweet peas are ... they look like they might fall apart at any second and are one of the flowers that really sums up summer somehow for me.

Daisies
I personally think daisies are a very underestimated flower! They are the perfect backdrop to other flowers in the garden - breaking up other colours with their white and sunny yellow centres .. and this applies in wedding bouquets as well. A sprinkling of daisies instantly gives relaxed country charm. You could also just have daisies for a strong country impact.

Perfect Peonies - My Favourite Wedding Flowers

I admit I have a total obsession with Peonies! Perhaps it's because they are such a beautiful short lived thing and only in season for such a short time .. or perhaps its because their big blowsy flowers are just so over the top and gorgeous ... whatever it is I adore them!
And joy upon joys we are now entering Peony season!
So any of you lovely brides who are planning on getting married between May and early July can definitely consider Peonies for your wedding flowers.
They look stunning in bouquets and as single stems so here are a few ideas on how to use them in your wedding ...

Get Married Under A Floral Arch

As couples are trying to find more and more ways of making their day special and stand out from the crowd, I've seen lots more ideas popping up for decorating your 'alter' or, especially in non religious ceremonies, creating a focal point at your wedding venue to get married in front of or under.
Many 'blank canvas venues' don't really have anything other than the seating arrangement and a table to create an aisle and focal point for the bride and groom.
There are many ways of doing this .. including a painted backdrop and hanging decorations ... but one of my favourites is the floral arch.

Here are some of my favourite looks.
If you would like to create something like this for your wedding I would thoroughly recommend getting in contact with a uber-talented florist. My favourites to recommend would be http://www.joannetruby.co.uk/ http://www.laurahingstonflowers.com/ and http://www.jayarcherfloraldesign.com/

Wedding Trends 2015 - Hanging Wedding Decor

Hope you've all had a lovely week!
Its been an exciting one here at Knots & Kisses ... I've been designing lots of bespoke wedding stationery for clients, have been working on Movie Poster style table plans and I found out that I had been nominated in the best stationery category at the British Wedding Awards, which you can vote in now https://www.thebritishweddingawards.com/vote-in-the-british-wedding-awards/.

Today I wanted to start looking at emerging trends in weddings for 2015.
One of the biggest is hanging wedding décor. Rather than thinking about just decorating your tables at your venue many are now looking to bring an entire look to a room to really create a wow impact.
Many couples have been using bunting etc. to decorate their rustic style marquee or barn weddings for a while now ... but new hanging décor trends create an impact in all sorts of styles so there will be something you can adapt to suit your wedding or venue.

The biggest trend I love is hanging florals ... speak to your florist about what they can create to decorate your venue.

If florals aren't your thing then hanging lanterns also create a fantastic impact and a more modern look.

And finally how about a modern take on streamers ...

Hope this has given you a few ideas and have a lovely weekend!

Fabulous Wedding Florists

Today I wanted to share with some of my favourites when it comes to choosing a florist for your wedding.
I adore flowers! I'm not particularly happy if I haven't got at least one vase of fresh flowers in the house somewhere .. usually in a cream jug on the dining room table ... so to contemplate a wedding without real flowers, for me, would just not be done!
So I'm a bit of junkie when it comes to catching up on what florists are doing for weddings across the country!
Here are some of my favourites ( although I have so many fabulous florists to choose from I'm bound to have forgotten someone! ) ...

The Garden Gate Flower Company - http://www.thegardengateflowercompany.co.uk

Based in Cornwall .. these guys provide beautiful seasonal flowers all grown on their farm. I love them for stunning wildflower and more deconstructed styles of bouquets.

Joanne Truby Floral Design - http://www.joannetruby.co.uk/

I met the lovely Joanne at a wedding industry do last year but have been a fan of her flowers for a while. Her website has just had an amazing new update .. showcasing off her incredibly pretty floral style.

Laura Hingston Flowers - http://www.laurahingstonflowers.com/

Based down here in Devon, I came across Laura's flowers at Wedfest, which I exhibited at when I first moved here. Using locally sourced flowers Laura's bouquets are truly beautiful.

I have long been chatting to the lovely Steph, who founded FairyNuff Flowers, on Twitter and have always adored her gorgeous wedding flowers. Incredibly pretty and summery.

Weekly Wedding Inspiration - Botanical Inspired Florals

This week I've been mainly working on an order of some very pretty Save the Date Tags. The couple in question were inspired by RHS botanical prints and old Victorian seed packets and I can't wait to show you the finished result in a couple of weeks!
I've also been working on lots of samples and orders of my Tropical Travel range of stationery http://www.knotsandkisses.co.uk/tropicaltravelcollection.html ... so this week really has been a 'flower fest'!

Inspired by this I've decided that to round the week off this weeks 'weekly wedding inspiration' is going to be all about florals and flowers for your wedding.

First up is this beautiful pastel bouquet from http://twigandtwinedesign.com ... I just love the addition of thistles, succulents and especially cotton ... which is something I've never seen before!

I also love this gorgeous floral arrangement from http://magnoliarouge.com which definitely echoes the colours of the Rhs botanical prints I've been working with this week .. gorgeous!

And for a more rustic botanical look I adore these bell jars and small posy jars filled with just beautiful ferns and pretty white flowers! (http://belleandchic.com)

Hopefully that gives you a bit of floral inspiration for your wedding. Have a lovely weekend!

Sometimes you just can't beat a pastel colour palette at a wedding and I've definitely found some gorgeous inspiration for this on the web this week ...

I'm all for a naked cake! Especially when it looks as pretty as this one ...

Loving the money saving idea of tissue paper flower centre pieces and the little pink crystal on the table looks amazing! ...

And finally this dress and these shoes! Adorable peeking from underneath your wedding dress! Unfortunately vintage but god I'd love to find some similar! Dress is from www.bhldn.com

Have a good weekend everyone!
