Wedding Hairstyles Inspiration

Lots of Brides have a really good idea when they start planning a wedding as to what they would like to wear, what flowers they would like, what their bridesmaids should be wearing ... but pay very little thought until the very end as to how they will be wearing their hair. Especially as many brides are going without a traditional veil these days it really is a big consideration.

Here are a few ideas and inspirations that I love for Bridal Hairstyles ... I particularly love hair pinned up with flowers or pieces of vintage style jewellery .. but I've also added some veil inspiration for those of you who want a traditional edge.

How To Choose The Right Style Of Wedding Stationery

I wanted to offer another post with advice for you this week on how to go about choosing your wedding stationery.

When it comes to choosing your wedding stationer I think the best thing to do is find someone who’s work you love ... hopefully mine lol ;-) If you love their existing designs but none are quite right for your wedding, the chances are they will come up with a design you like when you contact them for a bespoke service.

Many couples contact me with very little idea of where they want to go with their wedding and the stationery can be a great starting point for a whole scheme. When it comes to style I usually advise one of two things. Generally the easiest option for many people is to pick a colour scheme they like and let the style of their wedding build from there … often certain colours lend themselves very well to a certain style and you will find yourself naturally going down this route. Pinks & Greens are great for garden party style weddings whereas Blues & Whites often feel more beachy or wintery.

Alternatively often the style of the venue can lead you to the right decisions to how you want your stationery and wedding to look. If a bride contacts me with little idea of what she wants but I know she’s getting married in a barn in a relaxed and casual ceremony I will naturally go down a more rustic route with her stationery … perhaps tied in string.

There are so many ideas out there these days and so many styles of wedding … Festival, Classic Hotel Glamour, Fifties Rock And Roll … and there will always be a style of stationery out there to suit.

Provide your stationer with as much information as possible and they will generally be able to evoke the style of your wedding. This can be information in photo form … we love inspiration photos to get a really good idea of the look you are going for … pictures of your venue are also great, and providing swatches of your bridesmaids dresses fabric means we can try and get the best colour match possible when it comes to make your stationery.

Big Tip though : Try not to send stationers pictures of other peoples stationery as inspiration! We’ll always feel uncomfortable and like we’re copying anothers work, which is incredibly unethical, and you’ll never get the best work from us if we’re not basing our ideas on other inspirations and you as a client.

Wedding Stationery : Pretty Rustic Save the Date Tags

Hope you all had a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend and the weather wasn't too gruesome for you! I had a few friends visiting from London and had a fantastic potter around Devon :)

I wanted to share with you this morning some Save the Date Designs I have been working on recently for a very special wedding planner, who also happens to be getting married next year :)
She wanted something pretty but also rustic so we used some hessian, string and manilla card to create the look. Prettying (is that a word?!) it up with lace and a florals.
Here are some of the designs I came up with ....

Its definately inspired me to create a range of sweet little Save the Date tags to offer to my clients ... so watch this space! :) In the meantime if you'd like me to create something like this for you please don't hesitate to get in touch by emailing me at info@knotsandkisses.co.uk or filling in the contact form on the website www.knotsandkisses.co.uk

My Favourite Wedding Ideas This Week.

Its been a manic week here again at Knots & Kisses ... lots of last minute requests to make clients weddings look really pretty! It really is wedding season so apologies for no blog post on Wednesday.

I wanted to finish the week with a round up of my favourite wedding ideas from around the web and pinterest this week.

To start there has been some gorgeous ideas for wildflower bouquets all over the place this week. Wildflowers really are one of my favourite types of bouquets ... they just look so relaxed and pretty.
I particularly loved this gorgeous number on the www.bohoweddings.com blog by Mary Wyar this week, and the next two from www.pinterest.com

Also lots of fabulous ideas for fun carnival style tents used at weddings. This cute red and white striped tent from www.theglamcampingcompany.com would make a perfect chill out tent for your guests or an area to play for bored little ones! Also loving the black and white tented bar area from Pinterest.

And finally ... how amazing is this Victoria Mary Vintage headpiece which I saw on the http://lovemydress.net blog this week ...

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

A Vintage Industrial Wedding Scheme

Often trends in weddings filter over from other areas of design ... specifically fashion & interiors. One of the biggest trends in interiors at the moment is 'Vintage Industrial' .. so I wanted to look at how you could incorporate this look into your Wedding Scheme.

I love anything for my home at the moment that gives Vintage a bit of an edge .. and stops it being too pastel 'shabby chic' ... a term that's overused to the extreme at the moment as far as I'm concerned!
Here's an idea of what I mean by 'Vintage Industrial' it comes to interiors from one of my favourite interiors websites www.rockettstgeorge.co.uk ...

To adapt this to a wedding I would think of using really old beaten up trestle tables for your guests to sit around. Don't cover them up with table cloths .. but possibly use a piece of vintage lace or hessian as a runner down the middle to pretty the look up slightly.
Use old printing blocks and other industrial items as table numbers and centre pieces. This can be a really cost effective way of dressing your tables for your wedding as well ... scour reclamation yards and junk shops for cheap items.

Obviously using an old warehouse or commercial barn with rough brick walls can be a great venue for this look and give a great atmosphere for your wedding. Finding one for a day ceremony as well might be tricky in the UK .. but, as a friend of mine proved, with patience you can apply for a building you want to use for your ceremony to be licensed as a venue from your local council.

You can hang gorgeous old industrial light fittings from beams or use big industrial spotlights on the floor for added atmosphere. Or for a bit of a juxtaposition of styles use chandeliers instead!

Some more decor ideas ....

Bespoke Greetings Card Designs

To finish on the blog this week I wanted to share with you some bespoke work I've done recently for the lovely Mel .. of the Homegrown Bride and Under The Vintage Veil Blogs (incredibly busy girl!).
Mel commissioned me to make a bespoke anniversary card for her friend who got married a year ago and had a vintage floral theme with a maypole! So I drew out a bespoke maypole illustration and layered it up with a ditsy print fabric and came up with the design below ...

If you'd like me to design any bespoke greetings cards for you please get in touch at info@knotsandkisses.co.uk . Alternatively you can buy one of my standards greetings card ranges by clicking on the greetings cards tab on my website http://knotsandkisses.co.uk

Dressing For A Winter Wedding

I'm currently working on quite a few sets of stationery for lovely winter weddings this year and it got me to thinking about what was out there in terms of Bridal Fashion for winter brides.

I always imagine winter weddings to be gorgeous glamorous affairs with lots of art deco inspiration and jewelled details, or alternatively a gorgeous big rustic house or barn with everyone wrapped up in furs and lace.

I've tried to cover all budget options below, but include my favourite designs for a winter wedding. Please let me know if you have come across any other fantastic ideas for winter wedding fashion .. it would be great to share with everybody!

Firstly a couple of dresses by the lovely Johanna Hehir www.johanna-hehir.com ... I've been a little bit obsessed with Johanna's dresses since I saw her stand at the Milton Keynes Vintage Wedding Fair I exhibited at back in February, and I think these two outfits are perfect for a winter wedding.

Next up a couple of amazing dresses from Ian Stuart Bride. If you like flamboyant and impossibly glamorous dresses then Ian's dresses are for you! http://www.ianstuart-bride.com . My friend actually had a top hat for her wedding in a theatre and it looked amazing .. so I love this version below!

My perennial favourite from the U.S www.bhldn.com does this gorgeous gown below and also some fantastic cover ups .. including this lace number that you could add to any strapless dress to give you a bit more coverage for a winter wedding.

And finally this gorgeous lace sleeved number from the Vintage Wedding Dress Company .. who do a range of dresses both vintage inspired and actual vintage. I think this one would look beautiful with a little fur gilet over the top don't you? www.thevintageweddingdresscompany.com

A Fairground Themed Wedding Reception!

Its a sad morning for me ... as a massive sports fan I have to admit I shed a bit of a tear when the London Olympics finally finished last night! I don't even live in London anymore but hasn't it been an amazing couple of weeks. I visited London last week to see some athletics and hockey and was amazed by how friendly London had become over this period. I hope it continues :)

Anyway back to weddings!
I was discussing with a friend over the weekend about fun wedding receptions and we both agreed that it would be amazing if you could have a whole fairground theme for your wedding reception. I went to a corporate event once where there was a Ferris wheel and bumper cars for everyone to play on and it was amazing!
It got me to thinking about how expensive and whether it was possible to hire this sort of thing for your Wedding ... so I did some research.

Turns out there are lots of companies on the Internet that hire out fairground rides for any sort of event .. including weddings all over the country.
Some of the ones I found http://www.hireafunfair.com/ ; http://www.eventswithadifference.co.uk/cms/index ; http://www.howardsfunfair.com/ ; These are literally just a few of many!
I personally love the old vintage style fairground rides and would have a carousel (great for wedding photos!) and a retro style helter skelter :)

Styling Your Wedding With Lace

Following on from the huge success of the relaunch of my English Eccentrics Wedding Stationery range on Tuesday, I wanted to give you some more ideas as to how to use lace in your wedding decor and styling.

I'm a massive fan of vintage lace and vintage style lace .. I have a lace table runner along my dining table. Its why I wanted to incorporate some lace into the English Eccentrics design.
So how else can you incorporate lace into your wedding?

Obviously there's your veil and dress. There is a real re-emergence of traditional lace veils and headpieces which look incredibly beautiful and give a real vintage feel to your wedding.

Curving Periphery Veil

Cherished Heirloom Scarf
(items from www.bhldn.com)

Use lace to decorate your tables .. add a lace runner like me or a whole tablecloth. If this is too much for you you can always use lace ribbon to tie around napkins or cutlery .. or decorate your chairbacks with lace details.
