A British & South African Bespoke Wedding Theme

Hello .. welcome to a new week on the blog.
Firstly I'd like to apologise if posts were a bit erratic last week! It was a bit of a manic week here at Knots & Kisses ... I had to unfortunately go and visit the family in Birmingham for a funeral on Tuesday and this meant the rest of the week was spent playing catch up I'm afraid! Hopefully normal service will resume this week :)

I'm delighted to show you this morning some Save the Dates I've been working on for a really lovely couple who have both a South African and British background. They loved my 'Very British Wedding' range of stationery but wanted a South African twist. Here's what I came up with .. using stamps with the King Protea flower on ...

The design got me to thinking as to how to style a wedding with elements of both countries in it. So many couples these days must have the same issue .. trying to incorporate two different heritages into one wedding.
In the styling ideas below I've gone with the idea of a British Street Party with the trestle tables, union jack bunting and strawberries and cream, but incorporated a South African element in the rustic feel and the King Protea flowers.

Friday Supplier Spotlight : Bluebell Cupcakes

I have to say I'm a massive fan of cake! There I said it I'm a cake addict ... both making and eating! My waistline would be a hell of a lot slimmer if I wasn't but there you go!
Now I know there has been a lot of rumblings lately about the humble cupcake having had its day at weddings ... but I have to say any form of cake is ok with me! I think what we'll see less of in 2012 is the 'cupcake tower' in the form of a tiered wedding cake and much more of cupcakes being used on dessert tables, on cake stands as part of a afternoon tea alternative to the wedding breakfast, and as favours for guests.
Either way I'm still not going to say no to a good cupcake! And on that note I'm delighted to introduce my Friday Supplier Spotlight for this week ... Bluebell Cupcakes. I asked owner Nicola to tell us a bit more about herself and the business ....

"Bluebell Cupcakes is a family run business in Surrey. Its my Mum and myself. Mum being the cupcake maker and the designer, me being the marketing and sales person.

We design bespoke designs, for the individual requirements, we base our designs on a vintage styles and we like to think of our cupcakes as a pure luxury.

Bluebell Cupcakes literally started off in Nov 2010, when I posted a picture of a cupcake onto my facebook page, someone replied and send "how much is it for a box of 4 Nicola" I replied saying it was 10 pounds for a box, plus delivery and it was then I made my first sale....

Soon after I used my marketing skills and Mums fabulous cupcake images to help sell on facebook.

We make cupcakes for any occasion now and we are slowly and surely building our presence in the Wedding market. I have contacts with Miss Bush Bridalwear, so therefore I pop in there some Saturdays with some samples and speak to the Brides to Be.

Not only do the cupcakes look good, I can promise you now they taste good, and we make our cupcakes fresh and can turn an order around within a couple of hours, we never let anything sit around, and every order, no matter how large or small has lots of time spent on them.

I offer a unique service too, where we come to the brides house, with free samples and talk about what THEY want on their special day. I think this is crucial - I also offer a set up cost and stand hire. Put it this way, once they've ordered from us, they need not worry anymore about that aspect of the Wedding.

Amongst Wedding Cupcakes, we also offer mini cupcakes, also individual designed and created, all boxed up too! We can do little bouquets for table decorations and we also do the larger bouquets.

We do Birthdays, Thank Yous, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Christening, Baby Showers, Hen Parties, Halloween, Royal Ascot, Queens Jubilee, Valentines Day (big one coming up), Christmas, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Anniversaries - ANYTHING!!! "

Lavender & Brown Paper Wedding Stationery & Styling

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend! I've been working on lots of stationery orders this weekend which hopefully I can share with you soon!
One of the orders I've been finalising over the last week is a lovely Lavender version of my Rose Cottage range. Obviously I can't show the exact design I have come up with for the clients until their guests have seen them .. but here's one of the provisional designs we were working on ... of course it would still be tied up in brown paper and string as per the Rose Cottage range on the website www.knotsandkisses.co.uk

Here a a few styling ideas to go with this lovely colour scheme. I think it works really well with brown paper and dark vintage woods. Here I've gone for just this with some rustic styling....

Friday Wedding Supplier Spotlight : Gorgeous Bridal Accessories & Hats!

After a couple of weeks of pretty much showcasing my own work ... there have been a lot of new Knots & Kisses ranges to introduce you too! .. I thought it was about time I brought back the Friday Supplier Spotlight and I've found an absolute gem to share with you!

I was absolutely delighted when these images from Charlotte Rose designs http://www.charlotte-rose-designs.co.uk/ dropped into my inbox and just had to share them with you. They really are gorgeous accessories for you for your wedding day!

I asked Charlotte to tell us a little more about herself and how she got started ...

"I have been designing and making wedding accessories and millinery for 12 years now, and can honestly say, I love it... This is what I was meant to do.

It all started by accident after I got back from travelling....

I have always been very creative and a lover of fashion and design, I worked in fashion PR for a while then later media sales... Hated it!
My sister is a wedding hair stylist and at the time was buying hair pins to use on her brides... Basically I wasn't working having just returned from Australia and said 'I can do that' and so it happened... One thing led to another and within one year I had a small studio making and selling my own range.

I later did some millinery training at a Millinery school in Birmingham and loved that too, hence the range of fascinators and headpieces.

I also have a range of original vintage designs, made from vintage jewellery including jewellery, hair pins and hair bands, all have proved to be very popular."

Fantastic Wedding Planning Guide from The Wedding Genie!

Delighted to invite back the lovely Julie - The Wedding Genie - today for a guest blog about how to go about your wedding planning ... honestly if you're planning a wedding this is going to be invaluable!

Wedding Planning Know How!

If you read last weeks blog I asked you to take some time to enjoy your engagement and then to think about what you actually want from your day. If you did your homework and started to think about the areas we discussed you will certainly be clearer in your mind about what you want, where and when you want your wedding. Now the areas below will make sense and you can start to assemble your task list.

If you are still worried about the whole prospect of planning your wedding, read and follow these tips and you will be on track with your wedding plans in no time at all. Wedding planning is easier if you cut it up into bite-sized chunks, tackle these key areas first and you will have an excellent foundation. On big tip is not to make a list of absolutely everything, it will overwhelm you and you will keep putting everything off because it appears so daunting.

Follow these top tips for wedding planning utopia.

• Prioritise

• Set the Budget

• Set the Date

• Determine Your Guest list

• Choose your Venue & Style

Forget about all the little details, (for the moment) I promise if you use my tips you will have plenty of time for all the unique little touches to make your wedding day stand out, and to celebrate your style and personality. Concentrate on these key elements first then you can consider the details later. Wedding planning is a bit like a jigsaw, putting the right pieces in the right places will enable you to fill in the rest of the picture. So these areas are the framework for your wedding picture.

Lets Talk Priorities

Make a date with your fiance, pour a couple of chilled glasses of wine and curl up on the sofa. Decide what you really must have for your wedding no matter what and then make a list. The dress, venue and flowers may be really important for you and perhaps photography is something your fiance is passionate about. Talk now, your views may be different and it’s an excellent time to listen to each other so you end up with the wedding day that is truly perfect for you both.

Setting your priorities is key to successful wedding planning. Do this right and everything else will fall into place.

Budget
Now you have a clear idea of your priorities you can think about your budget!! Oh no! you groan. I want to think about dresses, venues and food! Well stop! Decide how much you want to spend and then apportion the budget according to your PRIORITIES. That way you will be sure you spend your money on what you really want and not the incidentals that add up and are not necessary. Remember it’s your money and you can spend it how you like.

Think about how long you have to save for the wedding and if your parents are contributing. Many couples pay for their own weddings these days and their parents like to pay for perhaps the cake or the dress or photographs. However your budget is made up you need to be sure it will be in place in time for deposits and final payments.

Start a simple spreadsheet, or purchase The Wedding Genie Wizard tools. They will help you plan your budget, alert you when you spend too much and track all of your details. Once you see the figures in black and white this really focuses your attention. Don’t add it up in your head and think it will be fine.

I guarantee you, if you don’t set a budget right at the beginning you will start to run up your own national debt! Getting married is about declaring your love for each other and not about seeing who can max the credit card first! Just being creative and thinking things through will ensure you wedding day is totally spectacular. You can wake up the day after knowing you had the best day of your life and you won’t be paying for it for the next five years. For more help on budgeting click here.

Set The Date and Choose your Style

Do you want a winter wonderland wedding, a springtime treat, English tea party or BBQ? Whatever you choose the date must coincide with the style you have in mind. It’s also a good idea to think of your honeymoon destination, this may impact the time of year you travel. You don’t want to be there in the rainy or hurricane season! Take into account bank holidays and major events such as the Olympics! These times may make effect travelling and people’s availability.

Guest List

Who do you really want to spend your day with? Friends and family make your wedding special so be sure to check their availability. The amount of guests will also affect your budget. Choose wisely remember you can’t please everyone but please yourselves. Weddings are very emotive and you will have to make some hard decisions. Remember for every 6- 8 guests that’s another table, more decor, more stationery etc. It really adds up. If you invite children count up how many extra that means? If you don’t invite them please make sure you stick to the rule for everyone.

The Venue

Now you have an idea of your guest list, budget and of course your priorities you can book your venue. Do this early, especially if you have your heart set on somewhere popular. If you want a civil ceremony, check to see if the venue is licensed to marry you. Please don’t book the venue until you have made sure the registrar or priest is available. If marrying in a civil service then go and give notice. You need to do this but you can only do it 12 months before. It’s good to get it done early.

Wow! if you work your way through these priorities your wedding planning will be off to a flying start. No confusion for you just a clear way forward. Just keep remembering!

The Rules!!

• Set your priorities. Write them down and keep close to hand.

• Having a clear idea of what kind of day you both want from the start will help you focus and stay on budget.

• Remember it’s your wedding and you can have what you want!

• Don’t sweat the small details yet.

• Tackle planning in bite sized chunks. Make small lists, big ones will just overwhelm you.

• Take time out – make sure you have wedding free evenings or weekends.

Hope you all enjoyed reading about my new range of Wedding Stationery Russian Doll on the blog yesterday.

Ditsy Print has always been popular with its pale blue and pink florals, but now its had a bit of a update with a newer more modern and fresher feel.
It now comes on a gorgeous white textured card and is a flat layered invitation with a floral print. Here are the new photos of the Ditsy Print update...

My New Range Of Wedding Stationery - Russian Doll!

Hello all ... I hope you've all had a lovely weekend. Its been all go here at Knots & Kisses HQ again ... loads of orders and requests of samples from lovely 2012 Brides & Grooms. its going to be a busy year!
Of course I also had the launch of the new Candy Stripe range last week www.knotsandkisses.co.uk and was really overwhelmed by the response and all your kind words!
So hopefully you'll like the range I'm launching today just as much!
Its called Russian Doll ...

It has been inspired around Russian Dolls and Travelling Fairs and my love of bright colours. I have a feeling many more brides are wanting an alternative to the pastel side of ‘vintage’ this year … its great to give them this option.

I've always loved Russian Dolls (I have two in my kitchen!) and the gypsy feel of them, and I wanted to incorporate this with a feeling of embroidery and pattern.

The Day Invitations are again a pocketfold design as I’m finding many more couples wanting to include a rsvp card and information card as part of their invitation. It comes wrapped in a colourful Russian Doll motif band and there’s even a cute little Russian doll inside as well.

You can find evening invitations, order of service and a full range of matching reception stationery on the website www.knotsandkisses.co.uk
The range could easily be adapted to feature a motif of your choice, rather than a Russian Doll. So if you love Scottie dogs, butterflies or anything else really and would like them to be featured on your wedding stationery just drop me an email at info@knotsandkisses.co.uk and I can design something specially for you!

I think this look could be really easily incorporated into a wedding style with lots of heavily embroidered fabrics and table runners, colourful vases and perhaps even a fairground caravan for your guests to relax in!
So below are some styling ideas for your wedding to match this range ...

New Candy Stripe Wedding Stationery Range - Lemon & Grey

I'm returning today to look at the new Candy Stripe range which I launched on the blog and website http://www.knotsandkisses.co.uk/ on Monday morning.
Hope you've enjoyed looking at all the different wedding styling ideas I've come up with to go with the three different colourways in this range. Today I'm looking at the Lemon and Grey colour scheme in this new range.
I've wanted to do something in this colourway for a while, as its such a refreshing colour scheme perfect for spring weddings! As with the other ranges it comes with a brown paper wrapping which gives it a warm rustic edge.

To go with this lemon & grey colour scheme I've created a moodboard of styling ideas you could use for your wedding. I love the idea of sherbet desserts, glasses of lemonade with stripy straws and fresh lemons in bouquets and cocktails! To warm the colour scheme up, as I've done with the stationery I've added some brown paper, wood and natural hessian elements to add to that spring feel ... I love the idea of daffodils in brown paper bags!

I hope you've liked exploring the new 'Candy Stripe' range as much as I've done this week. I'll be launching another new range of wedding stationery on Monday! So check back to see 'Russian Doll'!
