A Beachy Campervan Wedding & Stationery

Hello all! Hope you've all had a good weekend ... I've personally been obsessively following the Olympics coverage whilst trying to get on with some work! How amazing was the opening ceremony though .. I was so proud to be a massive sports fan and British!

So anyway .. enough of my Patriotism! ... back to Weddings :)

I wanted to share with you today some invitations I created for a couple who are having a English Beach themed wedding and love their campervan! I'm a bit obsessed with campervans myself so was delighted to come up with the designs below, which are a concertina design tied with string to give it a rustic feel.

If you would like me to come up with a bespoke design for you .. please don't hesitate to get in touch via the website www.knotsandkisses.co.uk or email me at info@knotsandkisses.co.uk

A Hollywood Movie Themed Table Plan

Hope you've all had a lovely week in the sunshine (apologies if you've been in that band of weather that's made it really cloudy!).
I really wanted to share with you today a table plan I designed for a lovely Bride & Groom for their wedding. They were having a gorgeous Art Deco Old Hollywood style movie theme, and really wanted a table plan which looked like a old movie poster. They also wanted to incorporate caricatures of themselves ... so, based on photos they had sent me, I came up with a drawing of them in a very Fred & Ginger style pose!
I love this table plan .. I adore coming up with bespoke designs for people's table plans which really fit with the theme of their wedding.

Hope you like it too ... if you are interested in me designing a table plan for your wedding please get in touch by emailing me at info@knotsandkisses.co.uk .

Present Wrapping - My Love of Brown Paper & Lace

Just a quick blog post from me this morning!
It will be no surprise to most of you that I'm a little bit obsessed by all things paper! And this doesn't end with stationery .. I'm also completely addicted to making presents look pretty. My other half often jokes that I spend more time and money on the wrapping than I do on the actual presents when it comes to christmas!

I'm particularly addicted at the moment to wrapping presents in brown paper and string before adding lace and a handmade tag to pretty it up. This present was for my friends Baby Shower ....

Here are a few other gorgeous ideas I've found on http://www.pinterest.com/ to inspire your wrapping ...

A Beautiful Garden Wedding Venue!

Hello! Hope you all had a lovely weekend in this sunshine .. wasn't it just glorious! I managed to get some time away from work to go to a local music festival on Saturday and then yesterday I went to the gorgeous gardens at RHS Rosemoor near Great Torrington in Devon.
Its only half an hour away from my new house so I'm looking forward to going back :)

While I was there I found out that they are a licensed venue for civil ceremonies and host weddings and receptions .. and of course I immediately wanted to share this with you all! It was such a beautiful and picturesque English country garden setting it seemed absolutely perfect for a wedding venue.

Rosemoor provides a stunning backdrop for your wedding. Image: Jayne Poole Photograpy

They have a selection of small and large licensed civil ceremony 'buildings' .. including a gorgeous gazebo and my favourite a gorgeous little thatched cottage enclosure!

Rosemoor House

You can exchange your vows in one of five romantic venues throughout the garden which have been licensed to hold wedding ceremonies. All have their own unique charm, and some are the closest you can get to getting married outdoors in this country! Toast your marriage with champagne on one of their sunny lawns then celebrate with a delightful reception for up to 250 guests in their marquee overlooking the garden. Rosemoor’s Garden Kitchen restaurant, outside seating area and Winter Garden Lawn can also be incorporated to accommodate guests for an evening party.

Hints And Tips For Ordering Wedding Stationery!

It's been a while now since I've offered some advice on the blog on when and how to order your wedding stationery. I know many people find it confusing so here goes ....

I’m not a fan of the word etiquette when it comes to weddings! I firmly believe you should be able to have the wedding you want regardless of tradition.

However, ordering Wedding Stationery can be a bit of a minefield, and it’s useful to know a few hints & tips to make ordering your Wedding Stationery that little bit easier ….

1. When To Send Your Stationery

Generally the advice is to send your wedding invitations to your guests approximately 3 months before the date of your wedding.
This can however depend on your wedding … you may be having a wedding abroad and in this case you will need to send out your invitations much further in advance as your guests may need to book flights etc.
If you’d like your guests to know the date of your wedding much further in advance I’d advise sending out Save The Date cards. This can give your guests advance warning so they don’t book holidays that clash with your wedding and can book time off work if needed.

2. When To Order Your Stationery

This can depend on your stationer, but I generally advise my clients to start the booking process at least 2 months prior to the date you need to receive your invitations. This is especially necessary if you are ordering handmade stationery, as it allows time for proofs to be sent and changes to be made. You also need to take into account many stationers will only be able to take on so many orders a month so it may be worth putting a deposit down much earlier to secure the services of the stationer you really want. I’ve had several people contact me in the last couple of weeks wanting stationery for next month, and unfortunately I’ve had to send them elsewhere as I’m fully booked.

Also allow extra time if you require a bespoke service as you need to allow a little bit longer for the design process.

3. R.S.V.P’s

I often have to advise couples on their RSVP dates, as sometimes they will put a date which is far too close to the wedding.
You need to allow time to chase up stragglers! No matter how well you think you know your guests there will always be a few who will reply to you weeks after your RSVP date... or not at all!
Also take into account the date your caterers and venue will need to know final numbers by, and if you are ordering reception stationery allow a month for this to be made.

4. Children

You may love to have children at your wedding, but there are many couples out there who could think of nothing worse! There are ways of wording this on your stationery so you don’t end up offending any of your guests who are parents!
Generally I advise not having a short sharp line stating “Children Not Allowed” … the text I usually use is something like … “We would love you to enjoy a day off and so respectfully ask that there are no children at our wedding”.

5. Extra Information

I’d always advise a separate information card to be included with your stationery. These days there is often so much extra information you would like to let your guests know about your day.
This can include directions, maps, guest information, food requests or even asking your guests to bring something with them to your wedding.
A lot of my stationery ranges include an information card and RSVP card as a pack price, which can save you some money.

6. Wording

When it comes to wording, I personally don’t think the rules are as strict as they used to be, but generally invitation wording will be either Formal or Informal.
Formal invitations are generally for weddings being hosted by the parents of the couple and will be addressed as such … “Mr. & Mrs. G Robinson request the pleasure of the company of Mr. & Mrs. Joe Bloggs at the marriage of their daughter Jessica Anne to Mr. James Smith ….”.
Many couples, however, now host their own weddings and so an informal wording is more appropriate … “Jessica & James would love the pleasure of the company of Jane & Joe Bloggs at their wedding …”.
I personally feel these days anything goes! Be as informal or as humorous as you want depending on the style of your wedding!

7. Final advice … Have fun with your wedding stationery and remember to order a few extra just in case!

Moss Green & Lace Wedding Inspiration & Stationery

I want to share with you today a lovely set of Save the Date cards I produced for a fantastic couple Charlotte & Andy .. who I met at the Milton Keynes Vintage Wedding Fair back in February.
I can't wait to share with you the design for their actual invitations which I love! But you'll have to wait until next year I'm afraid for those :) In the meantime they have recently sent out their Save the Date cards.

They were after a pretty vintage style incorporating lace but they didn't want to much pink so it looked overly girly. The main colour theme in the end ended up being a gorgeous 'moss green' colour which works beautifully with the lace, and a small pale pink floral motif completed the look.

I love the idea of gorgeous vintage laces becoming a theme for the wedding with touches of the moss green colour coming in from foliage and flowers and bridesmaids dresses. Here are a few of my inspiration styling ideas below ....

A Gorgeous Real Wedding With a Splash Of Colour!

I always love to show you a real wedding here on the Knots & Kisses blog whenever I can and this one is a real corker! Roz and Jamie got married at the gorgeous Maunsel House, a manor house near Taunton in Somerset. http://www.maunselhouse.co.uk/ . I just love the splash of colour from the groom’s jacket and the fabulous cheese tower! Congratulations to Roz & Jamie on their wedding!

I asked Roz a few questions about her big day ….

Roz and Jamie
Maunsel House, 18th April

What made you choose your venue?

Maunsel House was the first venue we looked at and nothing else we saw could hold a candle to it! My family was keen on the Marquee in the garden style wedding but having cowered in a rain drenched, windswept marquee grimacing against the elements at many a wedding of a friend I wanted to plan for the worst weather with a solid venue with a stunning period interior and then have the possibility of being pleasantly surprised if we managed to spend time in the gardens.

We wanted an intimate 'country house party' feel to our wedding akin to something out of Geeves & Wooster and it needed to have rooms for most of our guests. Maunsel fitted the bill on three counts: 1. There is also a candle lit chapel on the edge of the grounds so we could have a religious ceremony and then walk through the gardens to the reception; 2. Have you seen the Bridal Suite! The Queen would be jealous! 3. The people were totally fabulous... Friendly, organised and no customisation was too much trouble.

Did you have a theme?

Our theme was Decadent Country House Party with an intimate white tie dinner for 50 people for our reception. Our colours were gold, cream and sage green and I'm totally obsessed with butterflies (which symbolise hope) so we had hundreds of gilded feather ones amongst all the flowers and my bouquet.

Who made your wedding dress?

My dress was a sample made by Constantina by Benjamin Roberts which I got from Romantica on Margaret Street (near Oxford Circus) in London. If you want a dress with some colour she is the lady to go to. I picked the dress because I wanted a gold dress with lots of sparkles a) so it twinkled lots during our ceremony which was lit only by candles and b) so I could cut off the train and wear it as a ball dress afterwards. One tip if you want to do this though is not to diet for your wedding as it may never fit again if you put the weight back on. It also makes you feel wonderfully righteous eating all the food you'd usually give up as you have a good reason:-)!

My shoes came from Ivory on Bond Street (London) as they always have stunning pale, sparkly shoes in leather rather than fabric. For walking through the garden to the reception I wanted a material that wasn't going to get ruined and stained by damp grass. For my hair accessories I wanted something a bit different from the traditional tiara and veil so I went to www.rubyandfrost.com who have the most delicious collection of sparkles and feathers for brides who want something a bit different.

Where did your husband’s and bridesmaid's outfit come from?

Jamie wore vintage white tie as did my father. Men look so totally handsome in evening dress! All our guests then came in either black or white tie and the ladies all wore long dresses.

My sister was pregnant when we got married and with no idea what size she was going to be or how she was going to be feeling by the ceremony, ordering dresses in advance wasn't going to be good for her. So, I decided to make them all myself and then fit and finish them the week before the wedding. I chose the fabric and matched it to their eye colours and let them choose which ever sewing pattern they wanted as long as it was long.

What type of cake did you go for, and how did you come to that decision?

We went for a cake made from a stack of cheese which was then cut into wedges and big cheese boards were placed on each table for desert. We sourced the cheese from small organic dairies around the UK and they couldn't have been more helpful or delighted to have their cheese used for a wedding cake. They even asked us if we wanted then to match the covering waxes to our colour scheme.

Tell us about your flowers...

My florist was also my mother - who does wedding flowers for a living. She does the most amazing wedding flowers that have a really organic vintage feel and always has some brilliant ideas for creating something a little bit different. My bouquet was an ancient style of Celtic 'kissing ring' were the couple getting married kissed through the ring (symbolising the circle of life) to seal the bond. My Mother-in-law and I worked the willow to weave into the base and then my mother and I decorated it with symbolic wedding flowers and leaves. I still have the wreath in a box frame on the wall as we used silk flowers instead of real ones.

Who did you choose as your photographer and why?

Richard Griffiths of PhotoMagic did our wedding photography. I instantly fell in love with his artistic style and his ability to capture movement in a spellbinding and most importantly 'flattering' way! We got exactly what we wanted from Richard as I prepared a collection of example photos that we wanted to recreate the style of as well as a collection of photos Jamie and I hated. After that Richard had free rein and the result was fantastic.

Did you enjoy planning your wedding?

I'm afraid I planned the wedding with military precision before the day so suppliers and everyone in the bridal party had a list of items and itineraries. It was worth the effort as Jamie and I didn't have to think of a thing except enjoying ourselves on the day.

Did you create any of the aspects of your day yourself?

Our stationery and table plan was DIY as well as decorating the chapel and the house. We had a lovely little group and family and close friends the day before to help us decorate. It was a really special moment building it up together and really got us in the wedding mood.

Who designed your wedding stationery?

I'm a graphic designer so I created our own stationery printing antique gold metallic ink on cream paper and tying it all together with gold ribbon.

What advice would you give to brides for planning their big day?

One bit of advice I can certainly impart was to have a member of the waiting staff dedicated entirely to you and your husband throughout the reception. You are so much in demand that you will starve and wilt for lack of food and bubbles unless there is constantly a little tray of champagne and nibbles following you around:-)

Create a mood board for your photographer so he knows what you want.

Don't diet before your wedding if you want to wear your dress again.

Pick shoes you can wear all day comfortably and wear them in first.

A small intimate wedding gives you the time and opportunity to interact with everyone. 50 is a great number and you can then afford to do things in more style.

Plan for rain and then be pleasantly surprised!
